good end to the week …

I don’t have lung cancer. It’s an odd way to start a blog post but I had a weeks of not knowing and that made it impossible to think about blogging … which may be the topper of excuses I’ve offered up for long spaces between posts.  Quickly let me bring you up to speed on my health issues, lung cancer and an inflammatory disease by the name of Sarcoidosis.

A cough that wouldn’t go away sent me to the doctors office about three weeks ago and from that came a chest x-ray that showed masses. Masses is not a word you want your doctor to use in a sentence when pointing to a chest xray.  This brought on the cancer watch. There is no way a doctor is going to say ‘I think it’s cancer’ even if he does but when they scheduled a CTscan and a visit to a specialist they had my attention. That held my attention for a week, through the CTscan which was very simple.  The scan did peak interest  in getting into my lungs and pulling out little bits.  I now had a Pulmonologist and after pages of questions and finger pokes he set up a broncosopy which isn’t very simple.  Another week and then at 6:30 am I’m at the hospital atop the worlds most uncomfortable bed answering more of the same questions. The patient is sedated but not before they spray some extermly foul tasting liquid through your nose into the back of your mouth … three times. When I came around about an hour later I still hand that foul taste, a rageing sore throat and many tiny scars on my lungs.

This Friday the Pulmonologist called and stated there were no signs of cancer … worry but not waiting was over.  Sarcoidosis isn’t some wimpy virus but it’s kill rate is at 5% as opposed to 90% with Scarcoma.  In all it was a pretty good end to the week … js
